What Else Did I Listen To?- February 2021

Writer's picture: caspiancaspian

February was a weird month. I say that only because I got thrown into a free trial of YouTube Music Premium without me realizing it, and that would've been great, it has been great, but it lacks one thing. A recently listened to section in the homepage. It might be because I leave my watch history off 24/7, however, that was one of the things that annoyed the hell out of me during those two weeks. So, to the best of my ability, what the hell else did I listen to this month??

Swimming With Dolphins- Ambient Blue

A simple, but bold EP about whatever the hell they're talking about. The lyrics at first are nonsensical, as with everything Adam Young was apart of in his early days, but this one really takes the cake of "oh hey I never knew this song was about that". The closer I really didn't care about, the opener I found to be a little bit too lengthy, but the rest is still really good, and even holds up really well 12 years later. Wow, this album is in middle school right now.

The Postal Service- Give Up

Oh yeah speaking of Adam Young, I wanted to hear exactly what he was copying. I may do a full review on this later but, Maybe I'm Dreaming is the only Owl City release that resembles this project, but even that was its own thing. And come on guys, Ocean Eyes sounds nothing like this record. It's really good. Recycled Air is the best song on here, don't @ me, I'm not the one who makes the facts.

The Sunday Sadness- Self Titled

God, this brings me major nostalgia for the beginning of 2019, cuz this was basically my soundtrack back then. No bad songs on here, please with all your heart, give this a listen, you will not regret it.

Lights- Siberia

A few tracks go on for too long, a few could've been cut altogether, however, Day One is a badass closer. A few slappers on here, like Everybody Breaks A Glass, Where The Fence Is Low and Suspension, top notch synth-pop

Beach Bunny- Honeymoon

I don't know. This record isn't that good the more I listen to it. I still love Beach Bunny, but I don't think I would listen to this from front to back again, at least not for a very long time. Pretty good in the moment, tho.

Skeleton Staff- Solipsism

Who allowed the skellies to be this good??? Seriously why aren't they getting the recognition they deserve? The production level is high, even for a 2010 album, and you will be pleasantly surprised when hearing this. For the love of god, please throw it on.

Tame Impala- The Slow Rush

Pretty alright. It's a Tame Impala record so I know the songs are going to be long as hell with multiple parts, but that's what I don't like about it. This is so desperately begging to be a pop album, but there is some force in the studio saying "No, you have to be 5 minutes long! Muahahahaha" and then it ruins the song, by being too long. Now picture that, but for every single song on here, except for a few. What I'm trying to say is that this is a really great album, however it has no business being almost an hour long.

Eh, that's it. I did listen to Dua Lipa's latest album, but that's going to be in a separate review cuz it's just too complex of an album to be summed up in a single paragraph
