Saint Ivory- Mixed Feelings (2020)
Wow, this was way better than i thought. If you don't know, Saint Ivory is the brother-brother duo of Ketan Jogia and idk some unknown actor i guess, his name is Avan Jogia, idk if yall know who he is. However, when those two are in the studio together, they make some strange mix of ambient/experimental pop music that is such a surreal experience. Of course, there are actual songs on here, but I really love the breaks and poems in this, and of course the standout victorious line, but this is a really quick listen, being just over 20 minutes, so do it. Listen to it.
6/10
Ksmtk & BVSMV- Oui (2018)
Yeah this is such a boring synthwave record. the only interesting songs on here are Omega's Theme and Reborn, and they're only on Ksmtk's part of the record, so please listen to those two songs, but stay away from the rest of this
3/10
They Might Be Giants- Flood (1990)
31 years, holy shit. This music aged really well, and this gets a strong recommendation because this is just slapper after slapper. The tracklist might look scary due to how many songs there are, but don't worry, because you will instantly forget how lengthy it is because it is only 40 minutes and the songs are all amazing. They made a song about a guy telling his friend to stop bringing their friend to a party because they're racist. Like, that's such a unique concept for a song and I wish people did stuff more like this, especially since it's followed by the sickest guitar solo I've heard all year followed by a trumpet solo. It's genius. It's pure genius.
8/10
Phum Viphurit- Manchild (2017)
Yeah no. This record is so bad. It opens really strong with Strangers in a Dream, but after that, it trails off hard. The songs were so hard to get through and I dreaded every moment of this, except when Long Gone came on in the most unusual and uncomfortable place. Long Gone slaps. Overall, please don't even give this a listen, and just check out Long Gone. Your mental health will be so much better
3/10
Star Forest- Star Forest (2021)
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH HOW DO THEY DO IT??? HOW DO THEY MAKE CHILDREN'S MUSIC THAT DOESN'T PANDER TO THEM AND INSTEAD TRY TO LEAVE LASTING IMPRESSIONS ON THEM??? EVEN I BOP TO THIS AGH. I mean, it's probably the best children's album that came out in a loooonnggggg time, but this is still pretty forgettable for someone like me, but, if you have tiny children of your own, please make them listen to normal music, you'll thank me later, but if you insist that your kids only listen to music that's for them, crank this album up.
5/10
OSC- Girls on Bikes (2017)
Yeah pretty good 80s synthwave music.
7/10
OSC- Boys on Boards (2019)
Yeah pretty good 80s synthwave music. Better than Girls on Bikes tho.
7/10
Selena Gomez & The Scene- When The Sun Goes Down (2011)
Oh my god, this is their magnum opus. Selena Gomez does really well with synthpop music and I doubt that anything she makes will top this. This is just banger after banger after banger after banger, however, this is isn't well sequenced and has a very calculated tracklist. It's good for the hits, but not for an actual album. Time flies with this record on and you need to have a listen to it.
7/10
The Beatles- A Hard Day's Night (1964)
Yeah, this is some good music. The songs are short, in and out, but they're very angry at points, but at this phase, they still look like prepubescent teenagers, but you get used to it as the album goes on. I want to stress that this is the ansy and more e d g e the beatles have in terms of sound. and by "e d g e" i don't mean "hard rock, metal even" no, not that. it's just that music sounds like a razor sharp knife. If that makes any sense. It's a good album, strong replayability and a good recommendation for all the kids who only know like Abbey Road or whatever.
6/10
Grateful Dead- American Beauty (1970)
Let's get the bad out of the way first. Till the Morning Comes and Attics in My Life are just eh. The rest of the album is just phenomenal. I want people to listen to this because this is almost genre defining. Almost. On top of that, the production is tight as hell, clean as hell, and just great overall, so just listen to it if you want rock music that's true to its name. And one that smells like every recreational drug imaginable.
Halsey- Manic (2020)
Wow, I did and did not expect this from Halsey. I did expect the edgy and apocalyptic vibes from her, but to be done this well? It's incredible. I was so hooked in on my first listen and that never went away. This is anti-pop at its finest, and one that has one of the best segways into the hit song ever. It's just a shame there were no other hits on here and it seems like the album phase is pretty much over. Such a sad thing tbh, but I just hope this isn't the end for Halsey, since it seems like she's just getting started.
6/10
Run The Jewels- RTJ4 (2020)
I heard great things about these guys, so I decided to check them out and I was really impressed. The rage and high-paced energy throughout this record never ever stops, not even in its very short runtime. This is exactly what it intended and planned on doing, and it's an incredible rap album. If you're not even into rap, I still want to recommend this album. At the very least, you'll have a really fun time.
7/10
Bleachers- Gone Now (2017)
Jack Antonoff is such a highly demanded and requested producer and he's worked on some incredible albums overtime, so going into this album, I expected nothing but the best, but it's just alright. It's funny because it almost seems like he is better at being a producer than in his solo work, however, this was 4 years ago and it seems like he is still evolving as a musician and all that, so I won't be too harsh, especially since I feel like if I give a bad score, then he will just... Un-release Melodrama to the world idk. This was alright. Almost bland, a few memorable cuts here and there, I do love how the entire thing goes full circle at the end, but listen to it fi you have free time or whatever.
6/10
Tyler, The Creator- IGOR (2019)
ya know, I really want to say it's alright and that the songs sound the same for the most part, but I feel like if I do, I would literally die in my sleep from bloodthirsty Tyler fans, so how about we skip this one.
Turnover- Altogether (2019)
Wow there are some hits on this one, but the rest is just eh. I feel like this doesn't stick the landing towards the backhalf as this album really wants to. It starts strong, but after Ceramic Sky, it really trails off. It's very vibey, I love the vocalist on this one, and I love the aesthetic with this record, it's so amazing, I just hope they return sometime soon with something better. Listen to Much After Feeling, Parties and Sending Me Right Back if nothing else.
6/10
Superorganism- Superorganism (2018)
hell. yeah. Superorganism rocks and I just hope that they find the real success they deserve. It's weird, it's kooky, it's fun, it's vibrant, it's w e t, but that doesn't matter one bit because this shit slaps to high heaven. Strong, strong recommendation. Just go listen to it, it's incredible from front to back. Please.
9/10
Turnover- Peripheral Vision (2015)
Yup, more Turnover. This time, it's with the album that I listen to while I play pokemon shield, and I've never been more happy with that title. This is easily their best. It's atmospheric, sensational, and they deserve every ounce of success off of this record. The songs have similar grooves, but they're all so so different and unique in their own ways, and I love that. There isn't a bad song on here btw, just turn on Cutting My Fingers Off and be blown away.
9/10
Twenty One Pilots- Scaled and Icy (2021)
To everyone who says this record is garbage, I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me, tell me that Good Day, Choker, Shy Away, The Outside, Saturday, Never Take It, Formidable, Bounce Man, No Chances and Redecorate don't slap and aren't amazing songs. Because they do, and they are and I stand by that. Please just get that stick out of your ass and go into it expecting it to be an album, and you'll instantly see that setting them up to impossible standards and expecting Trench 2 isn't that good of a move. Jokes on you guys, I'm going to be here listening to the dragon album on repeat. Oh yeah Saturday is an amazing song once you realize that they aren't trying to tell a complex story and have lyrics as deep as space. Come on. Just give it a chance to shine and you'll love it.
8/10
Olivia Rodrigo- SOUR (2021)
oh my god I was in for the biggest whiplash of my life. I expected a banging album with a few sad songs in there, solely off of the opening track alone, but I got my expectations up too high. It was a huge drag listening to this record and it felt like it went on forever and ever because the ballads just never end and she doesn't even try to shake things up or put her own spin on things, it's just mopey ballad after mopey ballad. ugh. She has the potential, she has so much potential as a young and rising artist, it's just that the music she's making right now is not that good, I'm sorry.
3/10
Peach Pit- Being So Normal (2017)
The same exact thing I just said except make it even worse music and make every song not stand out in the slightest except for Drop The Guillotine.
2/10
Peach Pit- You And Your Friends (2020)
However. They improved significantly on this record. Like a ton. This sounds like an actual album and I couldn't be happier for the lil Canadian boyos. The songs are now interesting, have their own flare, and best of all, aren't terrible. They're interesting in the moment, but just forgettable for the most part. However. The title track at the very end is something to ride home about. Either that, Seventeen, or Drop The Guillotine is the best Peach Pit song, however, I can't heckin decide, but I kinda don't need to. Listen to this if you want the bangers to come forth.
6/10
Phum Viphurit- Bangkok Balter Club (2019)
Oh you know I saved this for the very end. This EP already means so much to me, and I would be sentenced to death if I said that Phum didn't evolve at all and his music hasn't switched lanes for the better. This EP is incredible from start to finish. Lover Boy is one of the best songs I ever heard, and the rest of the album doesn't stray away too far from that level of quality, replayability and overall, good, the music is. Seriously. If you don't check out any other project from this list, please check this out. It's such a special project and i really don't see anything wrong with it. My only problem is that this is just too short. Probably the best album i have heard all year and one of my favourite projects ever.
