ONEHALFHUMAN- frmwrk!
For the first time in history, I was casually scrolling through Bandcamp, deciding on what to listen to, and this immediately caught my attention, solely because of the album cover, like come on. look at that. how are you not curious to hear what it sounds like??? Alright so, I went into this knowing nothing about ONEHALFHUMAN, which is a strange name, at least to me, except that they are a producer. This is a very short listen, with only 11 songs, and only one crossing the 3 minute mark, however, I don't think anything could've prepared me for what I was about to hear.
One of the music styles I definitely hear is Madlib's, at least on Madvaillainy, where everything sounds like old timey music being remixed and left in the rain, however, even though there are a lot more differences than similarities with these two projects, this one, I have to say... i really don't know. My first listen contained me enjoying it a lot more than that project, the second time i absolutely dreaded it and the last time was just alright. It's so strange because every time I listen to it, I have a different opinion on it, and every time I forget literally every song on here. The substance is not there, the flavour is not there, and the replay value definitely isn't there. Is there anything redeeming about this project? I have no idea

BLOCKED- still here
I wasn't actually planning on doing this review, however I really really had to. This entire EP rocks. I keep discovering these people from Instagram ads for some reason, and all I can say is "keep em coming". BLOCKED is an extremely talented songwriter, guitarist, lyricist, and vocalist. Overall, just a great musician. There is a lot of competition in the "teenage girl in her bedroom with a guitar" genre of music, but BLOCKED is the best out of all of them. The way she manages to make every song on here a banger, is beyond my comprehension of thought because of just how blown away I was at a genre like this. The music is amazing, and yall should definitely check this out.
Every single cut on here is amazing with incredible replay value, but most of them run in a short 2 minute timespan. This is one of the best EPs I had heard in a while hands down, however, there is one underlying issue in the entire thing that I will get to later. end it all kicks this thing off with a simple and nice beat that almost immediately transitioning into all for you, which is the poppiest of songs on here. It feels like a complete pop song, all with great word play on a topic that doesn't really feel worn out at this point. you can come over is one of the songs on here that just explodes into a big giant climax that I was just desperately waiting to happen. I like the theming of the lyrics, instead of saying "I am sad but I like you" it is "I am sad but I like you, so let's be sad together." It's bittersweet in the best way, and I love all of it. Then. Then we get to 2012...
2012 is the best song on here, with a mesmerizing guitar melody and catchy hook. This song is nostalgic, sad, but it invokes some sort of hope inside me for some reason. It was the one song that I couldn't stop listening to just because it's so beautiful. sorry starts off with tapes of people saying how they feel worthless and useless, and then the entire thing splashes into BLOCKED's really great voice delivering us the hook that lasts throughout the rest of the song. Both songs have 2 main issues. They are way too short. I wish, I desperately wish that they would go on for longer and fully climax, because it really feels like these songs end just as they're getting started an that is probably my only criticism with this entire project, which is just those two songs, which are also the best songs on here, do you see where I'm getting at?
Anyways, never wanna feel is a great closing moment, and it actually feels complete. It wraps the entire thing in a pretty little bow, making it a satisfying ending. Overall, this deserves my highest of recommendations because I really want to stress that you guys need to keep your eye on this artist because she is worth your time and I really want to see her blow up one day. This project is so close to being a ten, however, if only more time was spent on this project to become the very very best it could be, then it would be. Peace out
