Boom Bim Bam. Quantity over Quality, often shortened to Q over Q, is a synth-rock virtual band hailing from... the internet. I kinda want to start this side series because I kinda realized that I'm not going to hit my goal if I keep up this pace, so I decided to just have fun instead of meeting a deadline. Plus, its kinda boring doing only 2 types of music reviews. I decided to start with the Qs because, not only are they good friends of mine, but I feel like it's a nice way to start everything by doing an unknown band that I casually listen to instead of frickin Taylor Swift or whatever, so here we are, reviewing every album and EP that they released to their name.
6. Blank Canvas (2020)
Although I relatively enjoyed the project, I couldn't help but feel like this release just needed more time. It's not that these songs feel unfinished, although it is kinda funny how the first song is called "Rough Draft", it's more or less the fact that these songs need more time in the studio to grow and develop into the best versions they could be. There are a few highlights on here, like how the aforementioned opening track is an inspirational song but it's so tense and in your face, i love that juxtaposition, and of course the closing track that is my favourite off of here with one insane high note at the bridge. It's an alright release, but definitely not them at their best
5. Skyline (2019)
This collection of songs just weren't doing it for me. I see the appeal, and I know they have the chance to grow on me, they just haven't yet. The lyrical themes range from strange to pretty interesting, the songs are all varied but grounded, however, the replay value for me isn't there. It's great in the moment, it just doesn't last as much as I wanted it to.
4. Silver & Mercury (2019)
This was the perfect "yeah it's pretty good" record. It's mainly instrumentals but when my man Terrance comes in on the mic, he brings out catchy pop hooks and memorable performances, most specifically on Foster Home. The instrumentals are great, with a weird muted and grounded theme to them that could get boring and repetitive at times. It still has great elements to them, however, maybe trim down the tracklist just a tad.
3. Quantity over Quality (2017)
Self titled is a record where a few songs do blend into each other, but god it's so fun. There are a few highlights on here that stick out more than a scientist at an anti-vaxx convention. Vicious Cycle's synthline that just jumps right into the track at random points, the entirety of Dancing With Your Shoes On and Retro City the Game, however, my brain was having a really fun time listening to this one, and it's pretty heckin good.
2. Myst (2020)
My god the amount of times I listened to this from front to back. It's their best studio album by far, and for good reason. It's consistent, every song stands out, it doesn't waste time, it's solid all the way through, the lyrics are tight and meaningful, and I can tell these songs came from the heart, not to mention the amazing album art. My only criticism with it is to maybe mix Jordyn Laurette's vocals a little lower on both songs she's in, because that's just something I need to get off my chest from the first time I heard it.
1 Cracked Spirits (2019)
Speaking of Laurette. "bUt ThIs DoEsNt CoUnT iTs JuSt ThReE sOnGs" shut up, it's my show I can do whatever I want. I love this EP. I really want to wish it was longer, but how quick it goes by is one thing that I love about it. It's in and it's out in a quick 7 minutes. Both Terrance's and Laurette's vocals go well together, and I'm glad they banded together to make this great project. I don't think it's fair to say that there isn't a bad song on here, cuz there's only 3, but it's true. This is different from their normal stuff, but that's perfectly fine, because it's slapper after slapper with this one.
Alright that was fun, goodnight America.
