I first knew about Colin Oliver a little over a year ago and his music has always amazed me at how really fr*ckin weird it sounded and I mean that in the nicest possible way, because that is a great thing. I love Oliver's music. I really enjoyed Bloom and Clouds Sounds is my favourite 12 minute album. Yes, album. I was really surprised at how nobody knows about him because he deserves exposure, even his podcast where the voice effects are so trippy but interesting to hear. So ever since then, I've been wanting to hear more material from him, and then a few months ago this album popped up on my radar on Spotify and I was excited but didn't have the time to sit down and soak it all in, until it got rereleased a couple days ago and I couldn't be happier. this is Oliver, alright, but he is expanding his sound a little more to tell people he is more than just a one trick pony. This might just be my favourite Oliver album. It's everything that I loved about Bloom and Clouds Sounds and not only improves them, tries out new things, but just makes them better as a whole, so let's just get into it.

Track 1: i'm still here

A really great opener to show us that he indeed, still here. The warping and noises behind the messy synth lead really transports you into this world that you are about to immerse yourself into. It's mind melting in the best way possible.

Track 2: crying

One thing that I always loved about Oliver's music is how he handles his voice. He doesn't just sing normally, instead he does all sorts of tricks and effects to it, like stopping and breaking it, pitch shifting, or just putting a filter on it and this is no different. His voice gets drowned in the smooth but sloppy guitar and it's a beauty to listen to

Track 3: for one more

such a beautiful and unusual song. It sounds like an ordinary pop song being left out in the rain in a puddle of mud. Instrumentation reminds me a lot of C418's Excursions album, except it's a lot busier. I love the hook in the middle of the song, where the guitar plucking is turned up to the max.

Track 4: f e ar

A slower song with a scattered feeling, as if all the elements of a song is just spread out in a grassy field, hard to find, but fun to look around. Guitar is great on this one

Track 5: time not

Really really nice synthline to open up the song. With it being an instrumental, every single element in this song has its time to shine, even if it's a backing instrument. It's a nice centerpiece in an album like this.

Track 6: able bodies

oh my god y e s. The dark, broody atmosphere being built here is definitely one that is breathtaking. The vocals in here add a certain element in it, his almost whispering voice sounds amazing and it's a change in the album that I definitely love and adore. love the synth at the end

Track 7: a side

One of my favourites on here. The synthline is catchy as hell, the lyrics on here match the tone perfectly, I love how this song just gets stuck in your head. The drums...? on this track sound so weird and distorted, and even the vocal track and how it is behind everything, glitching out to an extreme, is so great.

Track 8: sighs

really really nice closing moment. It leaves you feeling satisfied and wanting more at the same time. The equipment used has been delivered in such a great way, I love how you can even hear him pressing buttons and everything in the background. Really great stuff

So yeah. This is my favourite Colin Oliver project to date, he managed to make his signature sound and mature it but still made it sound like himself. This project definitely deserves a listen and if you like it, then just follow him on all platforms, he needs to be way bigger than he is right now and I absolutely can't wait to see where he will go from here. 100% worth your time if you are willing to try new things and hear new sounds

8/10
