Yep. It's one of those albums. One of those albums where every song was already released and this is just simply a compilation masked as an EP. I know exactly what yall are trying to do and it's not working on me. At the very least, just throw something at the end like some demo or whatever that you had in the works to make this project at least the tiniest bit interesting... oh wait he did... oh wait that demo was included on a double singl- goddamnit.
So BONNIE PARKER, amiright? One of the least showbiz names I've heard is buddy buddies with Sunsetta. Andrew Muci... Muchi- mooshite-...
Andrew is a musician that grew popular due to his cover of Adele's song "Set Fire to the Rain" when he was like 8 and now he started a band called BONNIE PARKER and is the face of this fuzzy really nice colour-schemed band. ACTRESS is simply a collection of 2019 singles with the tracklist literally being all the songs in order of their release. But somehow... somehow this is sequenced so well he literally didn't try at all. Don't be fooled, BONNIE PARKER is definitely a band, it's just that the other two members don't show their face in the slightest bit so it's only Andrew doing his thing. So what about the album?
Jason kicks this entire thing off... the song named "Jason", not like an actual guy. Or maybe he is, idk. The opening bassline is nice, the lyrics seem just cryptic enough to where you don't but also do know what he's talking about. The chorus is a nice buildup but is a bit forgettable at times. History is a song about how you don't want your past to define you, simply because you really care about this person. The lyrics hit hard, the dynamic and structure is great, it just simply is not my thing for the most part. Body is about loving someone not simply for their body. It drags on for a bit too long, however, the climax is something I really do enjoy, it just takes too long for the song to get there.
Now, we get to the best 2 songs on the entire thing. Nicotine and Scarborough St.. Nicotine is a beautiful piece of work with predictable lyrics but an unpredictable chorus. I thought that this song would stay slow for the entire thing but I was pleasantly surprised that this had a catchy as hell hook, fun lyricism, all in a short runtime. It's a great song and I'm almost glad it's at the end. Then Scarborough St. comes on and it blew my mind. Chills. I got actual chills the first time this thing climaxed and I still proceed to get them, this song is that mystical, the performance is great and I absolutely love it. If you dont want to listen to the entire thing, just listen to these two songs, they are the best BONNIE PARKER songs and I hope the band goes more in this direction, honestly. oh yeah then there's running water. it's a demo that's just thrown onto there at the end. I can't really say anything about it, there really isn't that much to say.
So overall, ACTRESS is pretty good. I could tell it's just a starting point for the band and I really really hope that later this year we get a full studio album with even better songs, but I actually can't wait to see what they do next.
